About
Originally from Ireland, Liv Monaghan’s earliest memories come from the living room of her first family home. There was a record player on one side and an old upright piano on the other. Her pre-school years were full of improvised choreographies set to vinyls of Romantic music. She started playing piano at 5.
Determined to commit herself to a life of artistic expression, she went on to study Theatre at Trinity College Dublin. During this time she fell in love with costumes and the intimacy of bringing characters to life through their clothes. She moved to Paris in 2012 to continue studies in performance design and serendipitously stumbled upon the seductive colours of the Parisian jazz world going from cafe to cabaret and on to create the Alternative Jazz project Bird&Bass, performing both nationally and internationally. She is a story-teller of musical poetry with an EP (Beauty in the Park) and an album (Slow Exhale) of compositions released between 2016 and 2018.
Weaving a deeply artistic pattern of her different creative experiences together to offer songs that pull threads from Jazz, Soul, Folk, and Romanticism to create an alternative, sometimes experimental and essentially poetic sound.
Liv Monaghan is a lover of the left-behind, of old things, of letter-notes, a believer in the half-light ghosts waiting in the ether to get stitched, strung or typed back up together to make something new.
